It’s so easy to look left or right and compare yourself to your peers, be they real-life friends or social media rockstars. I’m here to tell you that comparison is the devil!
Today’s podcast is more of a pep talk than anything else, but I do give you a handy challenge for the next time you’re feeling envious or down when comparing yourself to others.
Or listen on iTunes.
It’s well documented that comparing yourself to others is harmful for your mental health, and we know that when your mental health suffers, your physical health can begin to suffer in return.
What we can struggle to recognize in the moment is that what we see of other peoples’ lives is just the tip of the iceberg and it can be jagged underneath. Regardless of if you feel like you’re being lapped on the track to your goal or not, the next time you feel envious, think of today’s challenge.
The VERY NEXT TIME that you catch yourself comparing your progress to that of someone else or feeling envious, I want you to immediately list 5 things you’re grateful for and one thing that you’re proud of yourself for.
It might sound corny, but I guarantee it will help shift your perspective immediately.
We’ve talked already about the importance of gratitude, but pride is critical to your self-esteem, so if you struggle to find the good in yourself, this exercise will get you thinking.
I can’t wait to catch up with you tomorrow.
