Ever since coming across the hilarious and aptly named blog Not Wed or Dead, I’ve been a fan of Katy Colins. Katy was essentially jilted by her fiance not long before their wedding. It sounds like a movie, right? Well, what Katy did next showed she has the guts and the strength to be the leading lady in her own life.
She turned her heartbreak into the opportunity of a lifetime and backpacked around the world. Known by the British media as the Backpacking Bridget Jones, Katy’s blog inspired others who had suffered heartbreak that life doesn’t end. In most cases, it’s just beginning.
Katy channeled her experiences and energy into what became her first book, Destination Thailand, a novel that loosely follows her own experience. These are novels for those looking to mend their hearts, laugh, and/or escape into the destinations of which she writes.
On the podcast episode we talk about so many things. We talk about her experience in publishing, and I mention her blog posts on writing a synopsis, her publishing journey, etc., so check out those links.
She discusses the inspiration and support that has come through other authors in the WoMentoring project, and her top advice for solo travel.
We talk about Katy’s upcoming book, Chasing the Sun. At the time of recording the podcast, the title of her book hadn’t yet been released, so when we talk about the fourth book, this is it! I highly recommend you check it out.
Katy’s previous three books can be found below.
For one lucky reader/listener, Katy has kindly agreed to give away an e-version of her first book, Destination Thailand, as I have a feeling that many people from my blog may not have had the chance to read her books. IF… you’ve already read it, I’d still enter, and you can potentially chat with Katy to see if there’s a different one of her books. No guarantees… but I’m basically saying that Katy fans should still apply. Head on over to the Facebook post for a chance to win her book.
Katy’s Favourite Novel
Big thanks to Katy for sharing her story, life lessons and what inspires her. She was definitely a joy to have on the podcast.
Our next interview will be with Kaeleigh MacDonald from the blog Unpregnant Chicken. We’ll be talking infertility, parenting, living a life online, mental health and so much more.
