Today on the podcast we’re joined by Calgary-based artist, Melissa McKinnon. I have been a huge fan of Melissa’s work for years, so the opportunity to meet her in person, to snoop around her studio and to actually touch a painting (she invited me to, guys!) made my ever-loving day.
In this interview, Melissa and I talk about how she got into art in the first place, the advice that she was given in arts school NOT to be a painter, the business side of being an artist, and what happens when your work is knocked off!
We also talk about what it takes for any kind of artist to get over that hump of sharing your work publicly and dealing with other peoples’ opinions, about authenticity online and how it truly is a choice to be happy in the every day.
