And… we’re off!

It’s official! Today’s the day that the hubby and I jet off to Southeast Asia for 2.5 months! We’re ridiculously excited, if a little nervous. We’ve got a route planned, we have some things booked, but we’ve also left some flexibility to discover what isn’t in the guidebooks.

Where are we going?

As of today, you can officially start following our adventures throughout SEA. Our route is a fairly traditional backpacker route: Bangkok > Chiang Mai > Slow boat to Luang Prabang > Vang Vieng > Vientiane > Hanoi > Sapa > Halong Bay > Hue > Hoi An > Nha Trang > Ho Chi Minh > Phnom Penh > Koh Rong > Siem Reap > Battambang > Ko Tao > Bangkok.

This is a well worn trail, but we’ll try our best to bring you some unique posts, share our experiences and, of course, pictures! Our posts may be a week or so behind where we actually are (due to how busy we’ll be and access to the internet!).

Thank you!

I want to say a big thank you to some of the most helpful blogs I found for this trip. My favourite ones were as follows:

Alex in Wanderland – she gave us great ideas for things to do, but also inspired the use of our Aeroplan miles towards hotels rather than flights. Fancy star hotels, here we come!

See You Soon – this was GREAT for costs.

The Man in Seat 61 – I would have had no clue about the transportation options in SEA without him.

That Backpacker – Thanks to Audrey and Samuel we now know some of the must eat restaurants!

Am I Nearly There Yet – Eloise and Stewart gave us the confidence to travel carry-on only! We’re only sad that our route doesn’t include some of the adventures they’ve had, especially in Laos.

While not blog specific, we need to say a huge thank you to my parents for cat-sitting our fur babies (Cuik and Skype), to my work for granting me the leave of absence, and to the many friends who have provided us advice on where to go and what to see (you all know who you are – especially the couple who made us a Thai dinner from SCRATCH!).

We may be posting more blog posts than usual, but my Weekend Writer posts aren’t going anywhere! In fact, I was fairly organized and have pre-scheduled Weekend Writer posts for a good chunk of the journey!

Thanks!! We’re so excited, if panicking over last minute issues with credit cards. Trying to be zen 🙂

Good luck!! if you’re interested in another tip, when you get to Nha Trang spend a day at Vinpearl. Its a theme & water park on an island just of the mainland accessed by a cable car. It amazing and just before closing there is a dolphin show which has views of the mainland and an amazing sunset!

    Have fun 🙂

Thanks Paula! It was definitely on our list. I’m a sucker for a theme park!

No problem! Your posts were so helpful, particularly for Chiang Mai. We tried to visit as many coffee places as possible – I share your coffee addiction. Hope you’re both well.
