Your First Writing Paycheque – What Will You Buy?

For those aspiring writers out there, if you dream of getting published, that comes with a first writing paycheque. It might be big (we can all dream) or it might be small. Regardless of what it is, do you know what you’ll buy with your first paycheque? Dinner with your friends and family after ignoring them for so long? A vacation? Enough booze to have the biggest party so you have material for Book 2?

I’m betting that you’ve thought about it.

For me – caveat, I’m a freak – my first income will go towards a sit stand desk. Irma the Ergo-Police will be so proud of me.

Sit Stand Desk

Sit Stand Desk

I am lucky enough to work in an office with sit stand desks and they make all the difference in the world to my stamina, the strength of my back and my ability to keep writing. The above desk is the streamlined, less expensive version of what we have at work, but I’ll take it. For between $600-800 I can get myself pure, unadulterated WRITING COMFORT.

What are you going to buy with your first pay from writing? Or if you’ve already been published, what did you get?

I don’t remember exactly what I bought with the very first check (might have been a good bottle of wine) – but early on a bought a camera – and three years later when I sold a higher earning feature piece, I bought a bigger and better digital camera!

Excellent! And I presume you’re using said camera to take phenomenal pictures on your blog, yes?

Now I’m thinking about a sit stand desk, and lots of gardens, and family play time, and more writing time and conferences and research destinations, . . .
Happy Writing… and yes, happy paycheques, too! 😉

Ooo, purdy. I have two desks downstairs and I use the dining room table a lot. But nothing sit stand capable.
    Unless I get a really big box…
