Help Me Pick a Book Cover!

Quick post for today, folks, but I need your help! Ever since we got back from Southeast Asia at the end of January, I’ve been hearing the question from folks, “how did you do it?” People wanted to know the ins and outs about how to take a leave of absence to travel. Maybe it was for them, maybe it was for a family member of theirs, but I still get questions every now and then.

So… I’ve written an e-book. My fabulous sister-in-law has edited it, I’m working through the formatting process, but next step is to pick a cover.

David has come up with two designs that I like, but I need your help in picking one. Comment below on your favourite choice.

Option 1:

Option 1: Luggage

Option 1: Luggage

Option 2:

Option 2: Signpost

Option 2: Signpost

I like Option 1 more but they are both awesome!

    Cover 1 for sure!

I love number 1, but they are both great. Good job, David!!

  4. Sabina December 14, 2015 at 9:43 pm #

i like them both but for some reason option 2 is speaking to me more…

Two was my favourite as well, but we’re doing some colour edits to make it more gender neutral.

I like number 2! I think it appeals to both men and women where as I think number 1 targets more of a female audience.

    • Victoria Smith December 17, 2015 at 3:05 pm #

Agreed. Lots of people have made this point, so you’re all great little marketers!!!

Love option 1, great job, David.

I like No 2, it looks more The Modern – way to take a leave of absence to travel, or something between the two!!

    • Victoria Smith December 17, 2015 at 3:04 pm #

Thanks, Dee. We’re moving towards number 2 with some edits.

Good for you Victoria! I like the girl with the suitcase

    • Victoria Smith December 17, 2015 at 3:04 pm #

Thanks LP! I’ve had some folks make a really great point that despite loving number one, which I and many do, it cuts my market down. Shame guys are less likely to buy books with women on the covers, hey?

  9. Susan December 15, 2015 at 8:15 am #

both are really great – no wonder you want help, but I best like option one 🙂

  10. Jen December 15, 2015 at 8:53 am #

My vote is option 1. Great idea V!

    • Victoria Smith December 17, 2015 at 3:03 pm #

Thanks, Jen! I love them both as well, but I think we’re going to end up with number 2 and it’s more gender neutral.

They are both great but number 2 speaks to me more. Looks a lot more modern and I think it will attract more people of both sex.

    • Victoria Smith December 17, 2015 at 3:03 pm #

Agreed. We love both, but number 2 with edits is what I’m leaning towards.

  12. Julie December 15, 2015 at 11:47 am #

Both are great designs. But option one will limit your audience by 50%. I really can’t see men buying it.

If the book is solely a female centric view written for a female audience than option one is perfect.

    • Victoria Smith December 17, 2015 at 3:02 pm #

Agreed. I love both, but I think number 2 gives me more options and we’re going to swap out the pink. Thanks!

  13. Sharon December 15, 2015 at 2:24 pm #

I like option 2, both designs are really good but option 2 speaks volume.

    • Victoria Smith December 17, 2015 at 3:01 pm #

      Thanks, Sharon!

Victoria, I don’t know if you’ve made a decision yet, but I’ll throw my 2 cents in anyway. 🙂 I really like them both and LOVE the purple cover, but I agree with the previous comment. The first cover looks like a book written for women. I doubt a guy would buy it, so for that reason, I would choose the 2nd cover. Your David is a very talented photographer!!

    • Victoria Smith December 17, 2015 at 3:01 pm #

We’re leaning towards the second one with some edits. I agree, I love BOTH covers, but the second is gender-neutral. We didn’t take the photos, they’re purchased photos.
